Tungnath Temple: The Tungnath Temple is the highest in the world dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is one of the Panch Kedar temples and is famous for its natural beauty and magnificent location. There is mention of Panchkedar temples in Skanda Purana, written between the 7th to 10th centuries, which shows that all these temples are more than 1000 years old.

Built in the Nagara style, this temple is incredibly beautiful where devotees of Bholenath offer their devotion. Trekking from Chopta, one can easily reach here in one and a half to two hours. There are small shops and arrangements for food and drinks around the temple run by local businesses. Since the temple is situated at an altitude of 3700 meters, snow can be seen here until April.

Chandrashila Peak: From the Tungnath Temple, it's only a 1.5 km trek to reach Chandrashila Peak, from where the view of the Garhwal region and Himalayan glaciers is breathtaking. The sight of the sunrise from here cannot be described in words. When the first rays of the sun touch the peaks over 6000 meters, it feels as if they have bathed in gold.

You can spend some time at the summit enjoying the valleys, which are mostly filled with pink rhododendron flowers. If you're lucky, you may also witness the state bird of Uttarakhand, the Monal. There is also a small temple on the Chandrashila Peak dedicated to Goddess Ganga.

Deoriya Tal: On the way back from Chopta to Ukhimath, approximately 20 km away lies a small village called "Sari", where the trek to Deoriatal begins. After covering a comfortable distance of about 2.5 km, you can reach Deoriatal in about one and a half hours, where its beauty will delight you.

Here lies a small natural lake surrounded by meadows and forests. Camping facilities are easily available here for overnight stays, although you can return to Sari village in half an hour, where all amenities are available. From here as well, the Chaukhamba, Meru-Sumeru, and other mountain ranges are visible clearly.

Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath: In November, Baba Kedarnath is ceremoniously transferred from Kedarnath to the Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath, carried on a palanquin. This event, organized by the locals, is celebrated as a festival. Devotees of Lord Shiva who are unable to undertake the arduous climb to Kedarnath during the winter season visit the temple to have darshan of Baba Kedarnath.

The tradition of shifting deities to lower altitudes during the winter season has been a centuries-old practice and lifestyle of the Himalayan residents. The Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath is not only significant from a religious perspective but its architecture and beauty also greatly attract devotees.

Vishwanath Temple in Guptakashi: To escape from the Pandavas, Lord Shiva left Kashi and headed towards the Himalayas, and the place where he made his abode exists today as Guptkashi. There is a temple of Vishwanath ji here which is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

The other temple is dedicated to the Ardhanarishwar (half male & half female) form of Lord Shiva in which Shiva and Shakti have appeared in one body. These temples are considered to be a thousand years old or more.

There is a kund (pool) in front of the main temple in which water comes from two streams. It is said that one stream is Ganga and the other is Yamuna, thus this pond is considered very sacred in Hinduism. If you are a seeker then you can easily feel the energy of this temple and the presence of Shiva element.

Narayankoti: If you wish to explore rural Garhwal, Narayankoti can be an excellent choice. This village of about 200 families is renowned for its art and culture. The cluster of over 300 temples gives this village a distinctive identity. It has temples dedicated to the Navagrahas (nine celestial bodies) which are rare to find elsewhere in India.

For students studying Himalayan temples, deities, and ancient techniques, this can be a suitable place for research. The fair organized at the shrine of Jaag Devta, also known as Yaksharaj, is attended by thousands of villagers. Narayankoti is located just 3 km from Guptkashi and can be easily reached from the main road.

Rudraprayag: In northern India, the confluence of two or more rivers is called "Prayag." Rudraprayag is the confluence of the Alaknanda River, flowing from Badrinath, and the Mandakini River, flowing from Kedarnath. Because the flow of water at this confluence is swift, it is called Rudraprayag.

At this confluence, there is also a temple dedicated to Rudranath Mahadev, believed to protect this place due to the intensity of the confluence. There is a narrow route near the main road that leads to the confluence, where you can stop for a while and get a close view of the confluence.

Devprayag: Upon advancing about 70 kilometers from Rishikesh, you encounter the final confluence in the Garhwal region, known as Devprayag. This confluence marks the meeting point of the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers.

The Alaknanda River, emerging from the glaciers of Satopanth and Bhagirath Kharak in the Chamoli district, joins the Bhagirathi River at Devprayag, forming the Ganges River. The Bhagirathi river originates from the Gomukh Glacier, above the Gangotri Dham, where its vast form can be witnessed. Devprayag confluence is an incredibly beautiful place where you can descend stairs and approach the confluence closely.
