Darma Valley: During the monsoon, the mountains of Darma Valley, especially at higher elevations, are covered with flowers in shades of yellow, purple, and pink. Due to the heavy rainfall, dark clouds constantly loom over the mountain peaks. However, in autumn, under the blue skies, the valley presents a completely different view, where the brown rocks and Panchachuli Glacier create a grand landscape.

The valley sits at an altitude of approximately 3,500 metres, while Panchachuli Zero Point exceeds 4,200 metres. As you explore the valley, you pass through villages like Dugtu, Dantu, and Philam, but to reach Zero Point, a trek is required.

Panchachuli Zero Point: Panchachuli Zero Point is located about 4 kilometres from Dantu village. As you pass through the forests, you gain approximately 750 metres in elevation. From Zero Point, Panchachuli—a group of five mountains—appears very close and massive.

Seeing the Himalayan glaciers up close is a fascinating experience. The debris at the base of the glacier and the water flowing through small crevices present a unique spectacle of nature.

Dugtu/Dantu Villages: Nestled in the lap of Darma Valley, the villages of Dugtu, Dantu, Yangsu, and Philam are ancient and rich in history. Nagling and Balling are among the first villages you encounter in this valley.

The villages are home to the Shauka and Bhotiya communities, whose DNA traces back to Mongolian ancestry. Most houses here are two-storied, with the lower floor used for keeping livestock. The upper reaches of Darma Valley are said to be home to the rare musk deer.

Munsyari: While Mussoorie is known as the "Queen of Hills," Munsyari seems even more deserving of this title. It looks exactly like the kind of village kids from the '90s used to draw in their sketchbooks. Surrounded by high mountains with Panchachuli in the backdrop, Munsyari feels like a beautiful dream.

Since it doesn’t have luxury resorts or large hospitals, the absence of such facilities makes the village feel even more authentic. The peacefulness that surrounds Munsyari’s main attractions, such as the Nanda Devi Temple, Khalia Top, and Thamari Kund, is so profound that you’ll never want to leave.

Birthi Waterfall: Only a few waterfalls in Uttarakhand are known for their grandeur, and Birthi is one of them. It is a year-round waterfall, with the flow varying depending on the season. Located about 25 kilometres before Munsiyari, it can be seen from a distance.

To reach the base of the waterfall, you need to walk a bit, but the glass bridge in front fills you with excitement. There are some shops below where you can enjoy a nice snack of tea and pakoras. A small shop run by an elderly couple also offers a taste of traditional Pahadi cuisine.

Jageshwar Temple: A cluster of 125 temples built in the Nagara style, considered some of the oldest in Kumaon. The Jageshwar and Dandeshwar temples are magnificent structures made of black stone, though the exact time of their construction is still unclear.

The temples are dedicated to various deities, and their architecture is highly impressive. Surrounded by deodar forests, the energy and vibrancy of these temples can be easily felt by any devotee.
