By Train: Guwahati in Assam is the nearest railway station to Cherrapunji. Cherrapunji is located near the Indo-Bangladesh border, so Shillong is the gateway to reach Cherrapunji. If you're traveling from Northern or Western India, Guwahati should be the starting point for heading towards Cherrapunji.

By Road: There are very limited direct buses from Guwahati to Cherrapunji, so one needs to reach Shillong first. Take Tata Sumo taxis either from the main railway station in Guwahati or from the Khanapara bus stand to reach Cherrapunji. Take another Tata Sumo taxi from Shillong Bada Bazar or the Lewduh bus station for Cherrapunji. Traveling from Guwahati to Cherrapunji via Shillong through public transport may take 3–4 hours.

By Air: It is best if you get a flight directly to Shillong and then get a taxi to Cherrapunji. Shillong has a good flight connectivity in India so one can take flight from any major city such Delhi or Mumbai.

Best Time for Cherrapunji Trip: Since Meghalaya witnesses heavy rainfall in summer and monsoon, experts recommend October to February as the best time to explore Cherrapunji.

Best Places to Visit in Cherrapunji in Meghalaya:

NohKaLikai Falls: India's fourth-highest waterfall is Nohkalikai Falls, with 340 meters in height. One can both watch the Nohkalikai falls from a distant viewpoint and trek to its location. Mawsynram Village: Located about 80 km from Cherrapunji, Mawsynram is the wettest place on planet Earth which receives more than 11,000 mm of rainfall every year.
