Lasermo La Trek is one of the most popular pass treks in the Ladakh region. Trekking in Ladakh is completely different from other parts of Himalayas in India. Situated at an extensive height of 5450 meters, It starts from Leh and takes you to one of the most vibrant valleys of Ladakh, the Nubra Valley.
The Nubra Valley, also called the cold desert, is home to Bactrian Camels. Starting from Phyang or Fiang, this is a 38-kilometer trek till Hunder Dok, a small and beautiful village located in the barren valley where mountains are painted in off-white and creamy shades.
Small chunks of corpses here in the valley make the human settlement here more curious. Barely one or two families here offer homestay facilities. Working wifi connections at these homestays may help you connect with the rest of the world.

From Phyang to Phyang Phu and then crossing the Lasermo La is a wonderful experience. Water streams are always there near your trail; one can easily quench the thirst. Vast landscapes, large sections of boulders, bushes, and ice-chunks enroute the Lasermo La Trek presents the real picture of the barren hills of Ladakh high-altitude treks.
It's really interesting that these dead valleys also have signs of life. Marmots, wild bushes, flowing water streams, and vegetation grown around them make these valleys alive.
There are possibilities that you can meet with some trekkers like you while crossing or camping in the valley. The most exciting part of the trek is Lasermo La Pass, where you witness the high-altitude peaks. The entire pass is covered with snow, and you'll enjoy stepping on the crispy-crunchy snow fields.
Leaving Hunder Dok, you may find the proper roa...

Lasermo La Pass: Situated at an incredible altitude of 5450 metres, this pass not only offers breathtaking views but also presents a vista of several valleys stretching far into the distance. It appears stark and desolate, with vast expanses of snow blanketing large boulders.
It's a marvel of nature how from such barren places, rivers emerge, nurturing life along their banks. While crossing the pass, you walk on snow for several metres, and the sound of its crunch underfoot echoes off the silent mountains, reverberating in your ears.
From here, you can also catch glimpses of many of Ladakh's lofty peaks. It all feels like a strange dream, strange but beautiful.
Khardung La: Upon completing the trek, you reach Hundar village, where you enter the Nubra Valley. Here, you can feel like you are in the sand dunes of cold Afghan deserts.
Leh is located approximately 120 kilometres away from Hunder, and the road to Leh passes through the world's highest motorable road. Khardung La Pass, situated at an altitude of 5359 meters, feels as if you are driving on another planet. It's worth noting that this is counted among the main regions of Ladakh known as the "Mars on Earth."
Nubra Valley: Hundar village in the Nubra Valley is a remarkably beautiful place amongst Ladakh trekking destinations. Here you can enjoy activities like camel rides in the sand dunes. Additionally, Diskit is also a small village famous for its gompas and the scenic views of the surrounding mountains.
Although the Nubra Valley is vast, you can experience the entire valley at these locations near Leh. These sand dunes surrounded by towering mountains present a priceless image of nature.
Leh City: You have time to explore Leh, the capital of Ladakh, before the trek, although you can also visit after the trek. If you want to experience Leh closely, the monasteries should be among your top priorities.
Thiksey Monastery and Shey Monastery are the most prominent, and both are excellent examples of Tibetan temples. Leh Palace and Hall of Fame are other major tourist attractions that better define Ladakh. Leh's main market, restaurants, and cafes are also unmatched. While in Leh, make sure to savour the Ladakhi cuisine before you leave.
Feel the wilderness of Ladakhi Valleys:
Ladakh is one of the most barren regions in the Himalayas. Unlike the lush greenery of Kashmir, Himachal, Uttarakhand, or the eastern Himalayas, Ladakh's mountains are stark and desolate.
Yet, from these lifeless mountains, rivers like the Indus and Zanskar emerge, sustaining life along their banks. In some valleys, agriculture is also practised near the streams by local people. These rocky terrains are also home to many wild animals such as kiangs, marmots, snow leopards, etc.
During treks, if you close your eyes and listen to the rustling winds from the mountains, you can feel the emptiness within moments. Followers of the Buddhist faith chose these barren mountains because it's easier to meditate here compared to other places.
Experience Human Life at High-altitude Barren Mountains
In terms of geographical area, Ladakh is the largest Union Territory of India. Apart from regions like Leh, Nubra, Moriri, Pangong, etc., a significant part of it has remained cut off from the rest of the world.
In these barren valleys, villages inhabited by Tibetan or other mountain communities have always been neglected since Tibet came under Chinese control. However, during treks, you get to see all the facilities in these small villages.
Hundar Dock also has some homestays where you can spend the night. Spending a few days in these villages allows you to closely observe and understand the local way of life.
Explore the Culturally Rich Leh City
Leh city is the most suitable place in India to study Tibetan culture and traditions. The monasteries here have immense opportunities compared to monasteries located anywhere else in the world. There are many gompas here that function as spiritual centres.
Buddhist teachings and studies are conducted at these places. Additionally, people come here for prayer, meditation, and to learn about the Buddhist faith. The Losar Festival celebrated in February or March and the Hemis Festival celebrated in June or July are the main events here, providing extensive information about Tibetan communities, deities, and techniques.
Witness the Snow-clad Peaks
Some Ladakhi mountains are so high that they resemble glaciers. These glaciers are the main source of rivers flowing year-round in the Ladakh region. Snow-covered, towering peaks present the magnificent form of nature.
There are many mountains in the region that are 6000 to 7000 metres high or even higher, which not only attract but also create a sense of awe in the mind.
Seeing them reduces the constant worries and thoughts that bother the mind. Since there is almost no pollution at night, you can observe the Milky Way galaxy with your eyes. These valleys prove to be a great choice for stargazing and astrophotography.
